108 kg halibut 9. May 2010

The 29 years old German fisherman, Alexander Frank and his crew on Bobby 16 from Flateyri, caught a monster halibut on Sunday the 9th of May in the middle of the day. The fight took about 1 hour and finally the halibut was pulled inside the boat by 4 guy's. The halibut crab a rubber fish on 42 meters and two times she came up to the surface and went back down.

This is the second largest halibut from the beginning of our sea fishing company here in West fjords but the largest halibut was caught in May 2007 (240 cm and 175 kg). This halibut from Alexander was 108 kg and 203 cm long. This is his first sea fishing trip to Iceland and the biggest fish ever. Alexander caught a 30 kg halibut in Alaska few years ago but this one will be his personal reccord.

As you can see from the photos, Alexander is very tall guy (193 cm) but the halibut is 10 cm taller. The season just started 2 weeks ago, so this is the best start we could get. Now we just have to see if another halibut will be caught within next days or weeks.
